Vilnius, June 20, 2024 – Under the framework of the 21st International Anti-Corruption Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Director of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (APC), Yll Buleshkaj, participated in the high-level meeting of the law enforcement and corruption prevention authorities. This meeting, co-chaired by Linas Pernavas, Director of the Special Investigation Service of Lithuania and Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol, brought together leaders from around the world to discuss challenges and solutions for preventing and combating high-level corruption.
Key topics were discussed at the meeting, including the impact of high-level corruption on global developments, strategies for detecting sophisticated schemes and challenges in bringing corrupt officials to justice. Catherine De Bolle emphasized the need for international cooperation to fight corruption, while Linas Pernavas pointed out the importance of the independence of preventive, investigative and judicial authorities.
The Director of APC emphasized the importance of global cooperation. “APC is committed to working with our international partners to dismantle corruption at all levels,” said Director Buleshkaj. “This conference provided a valuable platform for sharing best practices and strengthening our collective efforts. The spirit and selflessness of Giovanni Falcone must remain our role model”.
At the end of the meeting, the participants, representatives from more than 30 countries from around the world, adopted a joint declaration, reaffirming their commitment to combat high-level corruption and strengthen the rule of law. This global commitment is an important step towards a more transparent and fair future.
